January Sky

March 21, 2015 by Sherrill Nilson in January Sky

And so it says,
      because,
Because the January earth is
      so brown and grey
The sky says pink, purple,
      mauve, cerise.
Startles blue
     before it dies.

Every evening it sings
      newer colors.

Because sometimes January is
     cold grey death,
This January the sky says
      we mustn’t come to expect
All the same kinds of
       Januarys.
